“DMC is a fantastic company to work with. Efficient, service-oriented, commercially-savvy, nothing is too much trouble for them.”

Andy Hockenhull
Senior Vice President, MIS

 Business Background

Lexington Insurance Company, part of the AIG Group, is one of the world’s leading property and casualty insurance organisations. Its insurance and risk management solutions connect innovative thinking with a solid market commitment to its markets, high capacity, and exceptional underwriting flexibility with responsive, dependable service. Lexington helps clients overcome risk challenges large and small, year after year, and reduce their cost of risk over time. It builds relationships that allow its insured and brokers to confidently proceed through the volatile property and casualty insurance industry.

 Paper chase

Lexington wanted to improve its internal business processes. Closer monitoring of its colour print situation was a priority. Conscious that with 50-60 printers accessed by 120 employees it was spending a lot on printing, Lexington sought DMC’s help.

 All in colour

DMC turned the situation around through a comprehensive survey of Lexington’s print processes. The audit included looking at price-per-print, toner-per-page stats, and how many sheets of paper were used per week. The result? “Rather than having scores of desktop printers accessed by 100 people, consolidation was facilitated through networked colour copiers and the price-per-click services offered by DMC,” says Andy Hockenhull, Senior Vice President, MIS “We get great reliability without compromising the quality of the colour output.”

 Canon can

DMC could see that speed, quality of print, and low total cost of ownership were major requirement of any new equipment, and therefore deployed colour copiers manufactured by Canon to form part of solution for Lexington.

 Huge Savings
The DMC networked colour copier solution is 10 times cheaper than using desktop printers claims Andy. “Incredibly, we made a saving of £100,000 in the first year” he says. “More importantly, they understood our business requirements and sourced the right equipment by asking: ‘what do you want to do with the product?’ as opposed to just foisting on us whatever piece of kit they wanted to sell.”
 Top-notch service
Lexington had alternative quotes but says DMC won the pitch based on competitive pricing and, crucially, robust service levels. In fact, according to Lexington, having DMC on-board is like having “virtual on-site support”. “They are very good. The engineers understand the needs of the business and its priorities. They don’t just fix things but are proactive in ensuring things don’t go wrong. Justin [Lexington’s DMC commercial contact] always looks at the big picture and has been stringent about future-proofing our systems.”
Standing on their own two feet
Furthermore, DMC provides Lexington with the tools it needs to stand on its own two feet “Originally we let DMC just get stuck in,” says Andy. “But more recently they have provided skills transfers to us, enabling us to handle more things ourselves.”
 Final verdict
Lexington has worked with DMC for five years, and providing a colour printing solution is only part of the story. DMC also helped Lexington secure the best scanning products for its business and provided help with secure document management. As far as Lexington is concerned DMC sells it exactly what it needs. And importantly, as Andy stresses, DMC helps in myriad indirect ways, such as putting in the legwork to find the right solution, saving Lexington valuable time. “DMC is a fantastic company to work with,” concludes Andy. “Efficient, service-oriented, commercially-savvy, nothing is too much trouble for them.”
